The National Emergency Relief Agency, NEMA, said it has received an additional group of 144 Nigerians who are stranded in the Republic of Niger.
The coordinator of the agency in Kano state, Nuraddeen Abdullahi, said this while receiving the people at the Malam Aminu Kano airport in Kano state. The people arrived home around 2:30 in the afternoon.
He said the people were repatriated under a program of the International Organization for Migration from Niamey, the capital of the country.
The people included 106 men, 16 women and 22 children.
Mr Abdullahi said the people who were brought back came from many parts of the country – some from Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Abia, Sokoto and Edo – and others.
According to him, the people will be trained in different professions and given capital to be self-reliant.
The coordinator advised Nigerians to stop putting their lives at risk by traveling in order to find a better life in other countries, saying that Nigeria is not the country to go to.
Kanempress reports that between February and March, 300 Nigerians who were stranded in Niger were repatriated.
