The passing of Hajja Hauwa Jidda Shettima, a distinguished matriarch of the Jidda Shettima family, has cast a profound shadow of grief over her loved ones, the family, and the community at large. While death is an inevitable part of life, the loss of a woman who embodied so many virtues—discipline, humility, and strength—is a sorrow that is deeply felt.

Hajja Hauwa was not only a beloved mother and grandmother but also the mother-in-law to prominent figures who have left indelible marks in their respective fields.

Among those who mourn her loss are Alhaji Waziri Zanna, retired officer from INEC, former longest-serving member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Babagana Tijjani Banki; the current member of the Borno State House of Assembly, Bama Central, Hon. Mala Bukar; Alhaji Modu Aja Goni, Former GM, Borno Investment Company, Alhaji Zanna Shettima, former Director, with Borno State government, and the Founder of Kanempress, Zannah Ibrahim Mustapha and Principal News Editor, VON Broadcasting House Ikoyi, Lagos.

Among family members that will receive sympathizers, Alhaji Jidda Shettima, the father figure of Shettima Aji family, his brothers, Dr. Bukar Shettima, retired Director, with Borno State government, Alhaji Abdullahi Shettima, retired Senior Judicial officer, Dr. Tahiru Shettima, retired permanent Secretary, Borno State government, Dr. Babagana of University of Maiduguri, Dr. Waziri of UMTH, Dr. Muhammad Kyari of African Union, Alhaji Babagana Kyari, Manager Eco Bank, among many others.

Hajja Hauwa was a true matriarch, a pillar of strength, and a woman whose heart was as vast as her wisdom. She was the cornerstone of a family whose members have gone on to excel in various disciplines. From her early years as a devoted wife to Alhaji Jidda Shettima, a retired federal civil servant and elder statesman, to her strong commitment to raising her children with love and discipline, Hajja Hauwa’s life was a testimony to the values of sacrifice, integrity, and care.

Her home was one of warmth and moral guidance, a place where respect for others and the pursuit of knowledge were deeply ingrained. Her legacy is evident in the success of her children, many of whom have risen to prominence in their careers.

Notable among them are Hajja Hadiza, a retired Senior civil servant from Borno State; Hajja Falmata, a dedicated civil servant at Public Complain Commission; Hajja Baana, a graduate of Arabia and Islamic studies; Hajja Mama, a professional guidance and counseling tutor; Yaa Bintu, principal Protocol Governor’s Officer; Hajja Yagana, a graduate of Economics; Barrister Muhammad Bashir, a legal professional and staff of NECO; Engineer Babagana, a master’s student of Engineering NDA Kaduna; Baba Kaka, a master’s student and businessman; Dr. Yakura, a medical Doctor at UMTH.

In addition to her immediate family, Hajja Hauwa leaves behind a legacy of great-grandchildren who continue to shine. Some have achieved first-class honors in their studies, while others pursue advanced degrees at institutions like Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Maiduguri, and others in China.

The third-day memorial ceremony will hold on Friday morning at No 26 Shehu Sanda Kyari Crescent, Opposite Amb Baba Ahmed Jidda’s House, Old GRA Maiduguri.

May Allah grant Jannatul Firdaus and may her life of love, sacrifice, and wisdom continue to guide and inspire us all. Vice President Kashim Shettima also recently lost his stepmother, Hajia Hauwa Abba Kormi, who passed away after battling a prolonged illness at the age of 69.
