Adamawa Spends N4.4bn Tackling Poverty

Adamawa State office of the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency, POWECA, has expended N4.4 billion on helping 20,000 youths and women out of poverty in the last seven years.

The state chairperson, Hajiya Aishatu Bawa Bello who stated this in Yola yesterday during an interface with newsmen disclosed that N2.445 billion was budgeted for the agency to carry out it activities for 2023.

The agency’s curriculum on skills acquisition was reviewed by the National Information Technology Development Agency NITDA, Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy was used train 2,700 students across the state.

The agency which prioritised 11 areas of entrepreneurial skills, mainly targeted at jobs for the youths to reduce poverty in the state is currently partnering the North East Development Commission NEDC and will soon embark on renovation of schools affected by insurgency in the state.

She encouraged women and youths to form corporate societies towards sustaining the program in the state.

‘The agency is colloborating with SMEDAN, ITF and NDE on training beneficiaries in areas of plumbing, ICT, carpentry, tailoring among others” she added.
