Angola calls for ratification of development fund

Angolan President, João Lourenço, has called on the member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to speed up the ratification of the operationalisation of the Development Fund.
Lourenço said this when he accepted the one-year rotating presidency of SADC, and pledged to work on diversifying the sources of funding for projects and programmes at member state and regional level.
The development fund was meant to help in cutting down the level of dependence on solidarity of the international cooperation partners.
The Angolan President called on member states “to speed up the approval and rectification of the agreement on the operationalisation of the SADC Regional Development Fund.
Lourenço stressed further that asides investing in human capital, there was need for serious commitment to electrification, a considerable increase in energy production and sharing, by interconnecting the transmission network systems.
The leader welcomed the progress made, in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, despite the challenges of combating terrorism and violent extremism in that Mozambican province.
