To address Nigeria’s growing security challenges, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has called for a deeper and more effective partnership between the military and the media. He emphasized the need for accurate, balanced, and responsible reporting, which is crucial for maintaining national security.
General Oluyede made the call at the First Quarter 2025 Civil-Military Cooperation Media Chat in Gombe State, where he was represented by Major General Obinna Ajunwa.
Speaking at the event, the Army Chief highlighted the critical role of public education in fostering a better understanding of security issues among citizens. He reiterated the Army’s commitment to working closely with the media to ensure timely, transparent, and factual information is communicated to the public.
By doing so, the military aims to build trust and cooperation with the media, which can play a key role in combating misinformation and promoting national unity.
The forum, themed “Harnessing Whole of Society Approach to Enhance Information Management: National Security in Perspective,” aimed to improve communication between the military and the media, fostering mutual respect and collaboration.
It provided a platform for open discussions on the importance of information management in addressing national security concerns and promoting a more secure and informed society.
