Borno Elders Mourns the Loss of Prominent Elder Statesman, Alhaji Mohammed Kagu Alibe, OON, mni

Borno State is in mourning following the passing of one of its most respected elder statesmen, Alhaji Mohammed Kagu Alibe, OON, mni. Alhaji Alibe, who served with distinction as the Secretary to the Borno State Government and held several prominent positions throughout his life, passed away in the early hours of April 5, 2025, at the age of 80.
A towering figure in both the political and social spheres of the state, Alhaji Alibe was a man whose influence stretched beyond his official titles. He was a respected member of the Senior Executive Course 10 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru and served as Chairman of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), Borno/Yobe Branch. His deep commitment to the betterment of his people earned him admiration and love from all corners of the community.
In a statement released by the Borno Elders Forum (BEF), the loss of Alhaji Alibe was described as a profound one. The statement, issued by Dr. B. Mali Gubio, mni, the Secretary and Spokesman of BEF, conveyed the deep sorrow felt by his family, friends, and the entire Borno indigene. “With a heavy heart and immense gratitude to Almighty Allah, we announce the death of our dear brother, Alhaji Mohammed Kagu Alibe,” Dr. Mali Gubio said. “He was a man who embodied the values of integrity, humility, and selflessness, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working with him.”
Alhaji Alibe’s contributions were not only in government but also in shaping the intellectual and cultural landscape of the state. He was widely known for his wisdom, leadership, and strong commitment to the betterment of Borno. His legacy as a seasoned statesman is one that will be remembered for generations to come.
The statement further noted that Alhaji Alibe’s passing serves as a solemn reminder of the transient nature of life, with the Quranic reminder that “every soul must taste death.” While his departure has left a deep void, the community takes solace in the remarkable life he lived and the enduring impact he made.
Family, friends, and well-wishers are invited to join the funeral rites, with his burial scheduled for 4:00 p.m. today Saturday at his residence in Old GRA, Maiduguri.
As Borno bids farewell to one of its most cherished sons, prayers for the repose of his soul continue to pour in. The Borno Elders Forum expressed their heartfelt condolences to his family and the entire state, and prayed for Allah’s mercy on his soul, asking for him to be granted the highest rank in Al-Jannah.
