In a strong statement issued by Prof. Usman Tar, Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Borno State, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum condemned the recent attack on Sabongari in Damboa LGA, which occurred on January 4, 2025. The Governor reaffirmed the sympathy and support of the Borno State Government and its people to the Theatre Command Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) and the armed forces of Nigeria.
Governor Zulum expressed his condolences to the families of fallen heroes and wounded soldiers, stating, “On behalf of the government and the people of Borno, I convey our deepest condolences and sympathy to the armed forces and the families of the deceased and wounded soldiers. May Allah rest their souls and grant fortitude to the affected families.”
Highlighting the impact of the attack, Governor Zulum remarked, “The Damboa attack demonstrates the enemy’s desperation to challenge our collective resolve and undermine the progress we have made in resettling communities and restoring agriculture in Damboa. However, I assure the armed forces that together, we will achieve peace and security in our state, In shaa Allah.”
Despite the attack, Governor Zulum emphasized the resilience and determination of the community: “This attack will not deter our communities or reverse their resilience. We will continue to partner with the armed forces and security agencies to secure our communities and restore public confidence in our sustainable solutions to internal displacement.”
Expressing gratitude to the armed forces and security agencies, Governor Zulum stated, “We remain eternally grateful to our gallant military and security forces for their efforts in safeguarding lives and property in our state. The Damboa attack was an isolated incident that should not impede our collective march towards peace and security. I call on the armed forces to remain firm and resolute, and for our communities to sustain their support for our troops.”
Reaffirming the commitment of the Borno State Government, Governor Zulum said, “Be assured that the Borno State Government, under my leadership, will continue to work closely with the armed forces to implement our development and peacebuilding programs.”
The Damboa attack resulted in the casualties of six soldiers and the vandalization of some equipment. The enemy, however, suffered losses and retreated. The Governor emphasized the professionalism of the military in handling such situations and urged them to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
