Ethiopia and Egypt commence dam talks

Ethiopia and Egypt are to resume talks over a controversial hydroelectric mega-dam under construction over the Blue Nile river by Addis Ababa .
The African Union had commended the decision to resume talks. The dam’s construction began in 2011 and was initially scheduled to be completed in six years.
The dam, is almost at completion stage, and generates diplomatic squabble between the two countries with Egypt, expressing worry that such could affect its essential water supply while Ethiopia, as an integral Party, intends to provide electricity to homes.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed had met with Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo after which both leaders agreed to negotiations to filling of the huge dam’s reservoir.
Both leaders also intend to put conclude the agreements in four months.
Egypt and Sudan opposed such viewsas such fillings as carried out without a binding agreement between the three nations.
