Farmers Urge Tinubu to Avoid Appointing Politician as Agriculture Minister

In a recent development, President Bola Tinubu has received advice from farmers and experts in the agricultural sector to select a qualified individual, rather than a politician, for the position of Minister of Agriculture.
During a meeting in Abuja, representatives from the agricultural sector emphasized the importance of addressing key issues within the agriculture industry, as it directly contributes to the nation’s GDP.
Emmanuel Ljewere, the coordinator of the Nigeria Agri-Business Group, spoke on behalf of the group, stating, ‘A politician mustn’t assume the role of the Minister of Agriculture. The new administration must recognize that farming is a business.’
Ljewere further emphasized the significance of promoting and supporting local governments, as agricultural activities in Nigeria primarily occur in urban areas. Encouraging local governments will contribute to the overall improvement of the sector.
