The Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Ali Biu, is in Maiduguri for an official visit to Borno State.
Biu said the visit was to meet FRSC personnel and other stakeholders, including transporters.
“We are in Borno for a couple of days to assess and see how our operatives are faring, ” he said.
“There are several issues and challenges around here and we need to boost their morale.
“We also intend to sit down with stakeholders, especially the road transport unions.
“We also intend to see the state Governor to thank him on behalf of the entire management of FRSC because he has done a lot in supporting us.
“The Government of Borno made our stay very comfortable in the state; our men are feeling safe based on some measures taken by Governor Babagana Zulum,” the Corps Marshal said.
Biu, speaking on over speeding, particularly by some commercial bus (hummer) drivers, said the need for speed limit device to regulate them has become necessary.
According to him the practice of conveying animals with humans by some truck drivers, was one of the issues alongside over speeding and overloading of passengers for his team to thrash out with transporters.
Biu said that such dangerous practice mostly by drivers conveying livestock and other goods from Northern parts of Nigeria to the South is endangering the lives of Nigerians, particularly when accidents occur.
