Gombe Breaks Barriers: Governor Inuwa Signs Disability Protection Bill into Law

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has made history by signing the Gombe State Disability Protection Bill 2024 into law.
This landmark legislation establishes the Gombe State Disability Commission, which will work to empower and include persons with disabilities in the state.
According to a statement released by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General (Press Affairs) Government House Gombe, the new law provides a framework for promoting social justice, protecting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities, and ensuring accessibility and participation in society.
The Governor commended the Gombe State House of Assembly for passing the bill and acknowledged the contributions of advocacy groups and stakeholders.
He also informed the Disability community of his directives for the renovation and remodeling of the only Special School in the state, with plans to build two additional Special Schools.
Dr. Adamu expressed gratitude to the Governor for fulfilling his promise to the PWDs community, made during the 2019 election campaign.
The Disability Commission will promote education, healthcare, and well-being of persons with disabilities.
Kanempress noted that Gombe has become the second state in the Northeast region to achieve this milestone.
