Gov. Buni Leads Global Experts in Investigating Kidney Disease Epidemic in Gashua

His Excellency the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON recently welcomed a distinguished group of international scientists and scholars to the Biomedical Training and Research Centre at Yobe State University. The occasion marked the commencement of the Summer School training program, where experts from various countries gathered to deepen their research and contribute to critical areas of study.
Focusing on Kidney Disease Research
Governor Buni emphasized the urgent need to address kidney disease, particularly in the Gashua region, which has been significantly affected. He urged the visiting researchers to delve into the root causes of this ailment, aiming to find lasting solutions. The state government reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Biomedical and Research Centre, aiming to elevate it to a global hub for scientific excellence.
International Collaboration and Partnerships
Governor Buni’s commitment to scientific advancement was evident in his previous collaborations with renowned research institutes worldwide. Last year, he engaged with institutions such as the Crick Research Institute, York University, London School of Hygiene, and University College London in the United Kingdom. These partnerships focused on kidney disease research, particularly in areas within Yobe State.
Praising Yobe State’s Scientific Progress
The visiting scholars, hailing from the United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, South Africa, Algeria, Senegal, and Ghana, lauded Yobe State’s growing prominence in scientific research. They recognized the state as a burgeoning hub not only in Nigeria but across Africa.
Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina, Director of the research center, highlighted the successful summer school training program. Accomplished scholars participated in workshops covering Artificial Intelligence, Malaria research, and Brain disease research. Over 450 medical doctors, scientists, researchers, and academicians from across Africa benefited from the expertise of seasoned professors.
Yobe State: A Science and Research Tourism Destination
Prominent professors, including Sharon (USA), Amadi (South Africa), Sadiq Yusuf (Vice Chancellor, Newgate University), and Yaw (Ghana), praised Governor Buni’s visionary approach. They predicted that Yobe State would soon become a sought-after destination for science and research tourism. Prof. Amadi specifically commended Governor Buni’s commitment to science and neuro diplomacy, which would attract global scientists and researchers to the state.
