Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has called on the people of Yobe to fully leverage the government’s robust agricultural interventions as the 2025 cropping season approaches. The governor made this appeal in Damaturu during the official flag-off of the distribution of 30,000 bags of 10kg rice donated by the Dangote Foundation to support vulnerable households.
In a statement issued by Mamman Mohammed, Director General Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Governor Buni emphasized the administration’s unwavering commitment to agricultural development, highlighting ongoing efforts to provide farmers with modern machinery, improved seeds, pesticides, and insecticides. These initiatives, he noted, are designed to make agriculture in Yobe more attractive, profitable, and sustainable for all residents.
“As we prepare for this year’s cropping season, I urge you to massively engage in agriculture to ensure food sufficiency and food security,” Governor Buni stated. “This administration will continue to support agricultural development through the provision of more machines and equipment, improved seeds, pesticides, and insecticides to make agriculture attractive, lucrative, and profitable.”
The governor also revealed growing international interest in Yobe’s agricultural products, with business communities in Qatar and Morocco expressing intent to source sesame seeds, Gum Arabic, livestock, and other commodities from the state. He assured that the government would capitalize on these opportunities to drive economic recovery and enhance the livelihoods of the people.
Governor Buni specifically encouraged the youth to explore the vast potential in agriculture, pledging targeted support and recognition for young people willing to embrace farming as a path to economic self-reliance. “Government will accord you special recognition and support with the necessary tools to succeed and become economically self-reliant,” he assured.
Commending the Dangote Foundation for its generosity, Governor Buni directed distribution committees at the community and local government levels to prioritize the needs of the weak, vulnerable, persons living with disabilities, and victims of fire disasters during the rice allocation.
The governor’s renewed call aligns with his administration’s broader strategy to consolidate economic gains, reduce poverty, and position Yobe as a leading hub for agricultural exports, as reflected in the state’s 2025 “Budget of Economic Consolidation and Poverty Reduction”. Recent government actions include the procurement of new tractors, training of agricultural extension workers, and the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development to further boost agricultural productivity and global competitiveness.
Governor Buni reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to work with all stakeholders to ensure a successful cropping season and a more prosperous Yobe State.
