Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has launched a new phase of palliatives aimed at reaching 1.8 million people in need. The distribution will target approximately 300000 households with an estimated six individuals per household. The governor inaugurated the initiative at the Muna IDP camp in Jere Local Government Area.
According to Governor Zulum the distribution is an expansion of the initial round of palliatives that began one month ago. The state government is aligning its efforts with the recent presidential declaration of a food emergency across the country as well as seeking to mitigate the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy.
Governor Zulum stated “In compliance with the declaration and to complement the federal government’s efforts we have rolled out a palliative distribution initiative targeting 300000 households.” The aim of the initiative is to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable individuals affected by the economic challenges facing the country.
The governor’s actions highlight the state government’s commitment to providing assistance to those in need during these trying times. The distribution of palliatives is an important step towards addressing the food security and economic challenges faced by households in Borno State.
He also noted that the initial distribution of palliative was conducted in Gwoza and three communities in Kukawa LGA which include Baga, Cross Kauwa and Doron Baga.
The initiative was introduced to alleviate the hardship faced by an estimated 300000 vulnerable families affected by the removal of fuel subsidies. Each eligible beneficiary will receive a cash amount of N5000 as well as a bag of rice a bag of beans and a wrapper for women.
Governor Zulum stressed the importance of prioritizing the welfare of the people and ensuring that measures are put in place to ease the burden on citizens. He urged citizens to support the administration’s efforts and emphasized that the hardship resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies is temporary.
This palliative initiative comes as a response to the challenges faced by vulnerable families due to the removal of fuel subsidies.
Governor Zulum’s administration is demonstrating its commitment to addressing the needs of the most vulnerable and providing essential support during these difficult times.
