Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has reaffirmed his commitment to fostering peaceful co-existence between Christians and Muslims in the state, irrespective of their religious backgrounds.

Represented by the Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Ethical Reorientation, Yusuf Umar, Governor Buni made this pledge at the second edition of the North East Unity Christmas Carol held in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

He emphasized the importance of unity and mutual support among the state’s religious communities, stating, “You can see how things are going on in Yobe State. Both Christians and Muslims co-exist, and that is from God. Nobody can do it alone; we must come together to ensure we live in harmony and help each other.”

Governor Buni assured the Christian community of his continued support, promising that the upcoming Christmas would be celebrated with a difference. “We must also live in peace this time, as God wants us to. All of us cannot be Muslims, and all cannot be Christians. I want to assure you that this coming Christmas will be a Christmas with a difference. I will make sure that more support comes to the Christian faithful from the Governor,” he said.

In his welcome address, the Convener and Liaison Officer to Governor Buni on Christian Affairs, Honourable Emmanuel Degubi, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his consistent support during festive periods. He urged the Governor to consider appointing Christian politicians to political offices to enable them to contribute their quota.

“Your Excellency, when you came on board five years ago, we had many Special Assistants. We really commend you for that. We want you again to support the Christendom through the Christian Association of Nigeria or through the politicians as you have been doing,” Degubi said.

The Guest Preacher, Rev. Dr. Yunus Nmadu, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Christian Solidarity Worldwide Nigeria, spoke on the theme ‘Carol in the African Way (The Prince of Peace).’ He encouraged the Christian faithful to embrace one another and propagate the peace that Jesus Christ brought into the world.
