Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has provided food and other essential items to 2,000 residents of Feezan ward in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) as part of ongoing efforts to alleviate the difficulties caused by the rising cost of living due to the withdrawal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
The distribution took place on Wednesday at the Mohammed Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies. In July, Zulum launched the distribution of essential items, targeting over 300,000 households with about six persons per household to reach 1.8 million people in need.
Under this program, each eligible resident in Feezan received a voucher that entitled them to food items. At the latest distribution in Feezan, 2,000 households, including 1,000 male heads of households and 1,000 female heads of households, each received one bag of rice and one bag of beans.
To ensure transparency and accountability in the selection process, the Borno State Government engaged civil society organizations to be part of the distribution committee.
Governor Zulum, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirates Affairs, Hon. Sugun Mai Mele, said that 15 wards in Maiduguri Metropolis will benefit from this program, with each ward receiving 2,000 bags of rice and 2,000 bags of beans.
