Ahead of demonstrations by opposition supporters to protest against the high cost of living, there are
police stationed in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, and other major towns.

The protest comes after President William Ruto signed controversial tax increases including that of fuel into law .

Protests are reported in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu, as police used teargas to disperse protesters.

Demonstrators have vandalised businesses in Kisumu as well as in parts of Nairobi.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga is due to speak later at a major political rally in the capital.

Mr Odinga is also likely to initiate a campaign for signatures to ensure government to reduce prices of goods such as petrol.
