In the wake of heavy rainfall causing extensive damage to the Abuja-Yola Road, Dauda Biu, the corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has issued an advisory urging the motoring public to seek alternative routes.

The road closure has impacted travellers from the North-Eastern region heading to the north-central part of the country.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Bisi Kazeem, in Abuja, Mr. Biu emphasised the necessity of finding alternative routes due to the adverse effects of the heavy rainfall.

The downpour, which occurred during the early hours of the day, led to significant damage to the road, resulting in a severed connection between key locations.

“This is precisely km 118 of Bauchi-Gombe Road whereby the heavy rainfall washed away the culvert linking Bauchi to Gombe, making the road not motorable for motorists.

“The culvert is completely washed away and road cut off and alternative route is advised.

“In order to ensure safe trips during this season, motorists from Abuja heading to Yola should go through Abuja-Jos-Bauchi-Darazo-Dukku-Gombe-Yola.

“While Motorist from Yola to Abuja: should ply Yola-Gombe-Dukku-Darazo-Bauchi-Jos-Abuja respectively,” he said.

However, the corps marshal requested maximum support from the driving public over the development and added that the corps will keep them updated on new developments on a regular basis.
