A TWO-DAY TRAINING ON REPORTING HISTORICAL SITES AND MONUMENTS, THE POTENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES IN LAKE CHAD REGION FOCUSING YOBE AND BORNO STATE

Kanem press digital hub under the Leadership of its indefatigable President Zannah Ibrahim Mustapha organises a two days training on reporting historical sites and monument, the potential opportunities in Lake Chad region focusing on Yobe and Borno State.
The training which took place at Yobe State University Damaturu on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th day of August 2022 was privileged to witnessed various experience speakers and expert from different Governmental and Non-Governmental organisation.
The president in his opening remark explain to the participant about the important of reporting historical sites and monument and the potential opportunities as he says that sufficient numbers of cultural monuments and their good condition are one of prerequisites for the development of tourism and for the interest of tourists in particular destinations and regions.
According to him, this training is aimed toward enlighten people’s horizon of understanding about how to report historical monument and opportunities available in the Lake Chad region.
The president also thanks Yobe State government and MacArthur foundation for their support and necessary assistance during the course of these training.
Speaking during the lecture, Mr Mamza Ralph who was the Curator National Museum and Monument Damaturu express his dissatisfaction about how the Dufuna canoe (the oldest historic object in Africa) is treated, he further explains that preserving and restoring the old historic objects are also important because those old monuments are the reflection of our history, they help us to understand and respect people who lived in different eras with different habits and traditions. As well the existence of old monuments will help us observe the changes in the societies for a better understanding of the reasons that lead to the development of cities and societies and even traditions to the current stage.
Mr Mamza later thanks Kanem press for organizing such memorable training and urge the President to seek for government intervention in respect cultural heritage, reviving and restoration.
Other speaker Dr Adam Kolo, who was a lecturer of department of Mass Communication from University of Maiduguri explains the role of communication in reviving cultural heritage were he sees communication and media as the privileged vehicle for spreading information, knowledge, understanding, and for this reason it could potentially represent a tool for improving access to cultural resources, facilitate the recognition of heritage values by collectivity and the need for wider and extended protection.
He further explains the roles which community leaders, traditional and religious institution can play in restoring and reviving historical monument in Lake Chad region particularly Yobe and Borno State.
Another guest speaker Adamu Talba Lawan, who was the director history and culture Yobe State highlights the participant on how to report historic monument and future opportunities in Lake Chad region, he explain that historical reporting makes it feasible to analyze a wider range of variables, granting improved insight into what’s happening across our societies, he further explain the three (3) method of reporting historic monument which are Written reporting, Graphics reporting and Oral reporting were he says written reporting is most popular mode, reason being, reports can be kept as legal records by using this mode and can be used as reference sources, while graphics reports may be presented in the form of charts, diagrams and pictures and above all, he explains to the participant that a combination of written, graphic and oral reporting may be useful for effective and efficient reporting in an organization or any historic settings.
Other speakers at the training were Dr Grema Kyari who was the Program Manager African initiative for sustainable and positive development, Alhaji Modu Bukar who was also the Director Art and Culture Yobe State, and Director remedial studies Yobe State University, all among others shares their views on reporting historical monument and future opportunities and all of them unanimously agreed that history is the reason for human existence and the purpose of history is revisiting the past, use what we have learn from the past to adjust the present and plan for a better future.
Finally, the president in his closing remark expresses his satisfaction about how the participants understand the importance of the training and he urge them to engage themselves in reporting historical sites and other developmental news within the Yobe, Borno and Lake Chad region in general.
He also thanks our guest speakers for their contribution towards the success of the training.
