Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has announced measures to alleviate the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy on education.

In response to the economic hardship in the country, the governor declared free education for primary and secondary schools starting from the next academic session.

In a statement by his Spokesperson, Emmanuel Bello, said Kefas made the declaration at the Ebenezer Primary School in Wukari as part of his assessment tour.

The decision, however, follows his earlier announcement of a 50% reduction in university school fees.

During his visit to Ebenezer Primary School in Wukari, Governor Kefas emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to cover educational expenses, and students should not be burdened with fees.

He stated that aside from fulfilling a campaign promise, the removal of fuel subsidy has necessitated the move to provide free education at these levels.

Similarly, on Wednesday during his visit to the Taraba State University in Jalingo, Kefas announced the removal of school fees in the university, saying quality education remained his main priority

TCR gathered that many parents cited the challenges by the removal of fuel subsidy, which had made it difficult for them to afford school fees in the state.
