In a remarkable turn of events, Mudashiru Obasa has been reinstated as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly following the resignation of Mojisola Meranda. Obasa, who was previously removed in January 2025, was re-elected on Monday after Meranda stepped down from the position.
The leadership crisis began on January 13, 2025, when Obasa was impeached over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office. Meranda, who succeeded him, served as the first female Speaker of the Assembly. However, after just six weeks in office, Meranda resigned, paving the way for Obasa’s return.
Obasa’s reinstatement highlights the ongoing power dynamics within the Lagos State House of Assembly and raises questions about the stability of its leadership.
