LASIEC Refutes Claims on 2025 Local Government Election Date

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has dismissed reports circulating online that it has released a timetable for the 2025 Local Government elections, calling the information “fake news.” These reports suggested that LASIEC had set July 19, 2025, as the official date for the election in the state.
In a statement issued over the weekend, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd), Chairman of LASIEC, urged political parties, stakeholders, and the general public to ignore the false claims. He reassured everyone that the election process will adhere to the laws governing it, and any official announcement regarding the election date will be made in accordance with legal requirements.
Okikiolu-Ighile further emphasized that LASIEC would follow the proper legal procedures and that the election date would only be declared officially once all necessary steps have been taken. His statement sought to clear up the confusion and ensure that the public relies on accurate and verified information.
