Mali and Burkina Faso are planning to send a joint delegation to Niger’s capital, Niamey, as a display of solidarity during the coup crisis, according to the Malian army’s statement.
The transitional governments of both countries, established after military takeovers in 2020 and 2022, have also expressed support for the Nigerien soldiers who led the overthrow of President Mohamed Bazoum.
Additionally, they warned that any military intervention in Niger would be perceived as a declaration of war against them, prompting Burkina Faso and Mali to consider withdrawing from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
It could be recalled that ECOWAS, comprising 15 West African countries, has previously threatened to use force to restore order in Niger.
