The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has recently taken a significant step in addressing food security in Gombe State by providing employment opportunities for 50 youths through its Rural Employment Promotion Department. This initiative known as the Post-Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS aims to develop the agricultural sector and ensure food sufficiency in the state.

Abubakar Fikpo, the Director-General of NDE expressed his satisfaction with the SADTS workshop considering it both appropriate and timely. He emphasized that agriculture being an integral part of Nigeria’s culture plays a pivotal role in national development.

Fikpo also highlighted the potential of agriculture in reducing the high unemployment rate in the country.

Representing the Director-General at the workshop, Alao Babatunde the NDE North-East Zonal Director, underlined the agency’s evolution and the impact of government policies and intervention programs on its activities. He further emphasized the importance of investing in agriculture and how it can reshape the economic landscape of Gombe State and Nigeria as a whole.

By engaging 50 youths in agricultural activities the NDE aims to not only provide employment opportunities but also equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute effectively to the agricultural sector. This initiative is expected to have a multiplier effect on food production leading to improved food security in Gombe State.

With the government’s continued support and intervention programs like the SADTS, it is hoped that more youths will be empowered and engaged in the agricultural sector thereby reducing unemployment and promoting sustainable development in Nigeria.

He said, “Considering the fact that it will seek to remove the drudgery in processing agricultural enterprises and identifies agricultural sector employment, provide every necessary information needed to source for start-up capital from Federal Government intervention initiatives and policies.
