NEMA provides aid to 13,000 flood victims in Gombe

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced the distribution of relief supplies to 13,299 households affected by the recent flood disaster in Gombe State.

The distribution which started in the Kwami community of Kwami Local Government Area aims to provide assistance to those impacted by the devastating floods.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed his gratitude to the federal government for their support and acknowledged the importance of the relief materials in providing relief to the affected communities.

Representing the governor at the inauguration Prof. Ibrahim Njodi,the secretary to the state government emphasized the significance of the donated items in helping the beneficiaries recover from the flood’s aftermath.

While urging the recipients to utilize the relief materials wisely Governor Yahaya cautioned against the sale of the supplies as their purpose is to alleviate poverty and empower individuals economically. It is essential for the targeted individuals and the most vulnerable to receive the relief materials and he called upon those involved in the distribution process to ensure that they reach the right individuals.

The commencement of the distribution marks a significant step in providing support to the affected households offering them some respite and assistance as they navigate the challenges caused by the flood disaster. Through these efforts the government aims to contribute to the recovery and rebuilding process fostering resilience in the affected communities.

He assured that the state government would soon roll out its palliatives across the state to help citizens cushion the impact of subsidy removal and the current hardship being faced by Nigerians.

Speaking earlier, Yusuf Isah, Chief Administration Officer, NEMA, Abuja, said the items being distributed comprised food and non-food materials.

Isah said the gesture was under the Special National Economic and Livelihood Emergency Intervention (SNELEI), aimed at bringing succour to victims and vulnerable persons in Gombe State.

He said the food items distributed included rice, beans, sorghum, Maggie, salt and vegetable oil, blankets, mats, mosquito nets and detergents.

He listed the non-food items to include sewing machine, grinding machine, water pump for dry season farmers, sprayers, fertilisers, herbicides and seedlings.
