15 august 2The Nigeria Police has declared a manhunt for some persons who chanted provocative slogans against the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.

The state Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Gumel, in Kano State, told newsmen that the affected persons caused public disturbance during the inauguration of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, near the Emir’s palace on Sunday.

According to Gumel the protesters organised themselves disturbingly, chanting provocative slogans against the Emir who attended the event.

The protesters chanted slogans, like “new governor, new Emir,” insisting that Governor Abba Yusuf should remove the Emir and install a new one since it is a new government in power.

Gumel said the police used technology to identify those involved, as more people would be tracked down, including their sponsors.

“Those people were not invited to the event. They were intruders who came on their own, and they must have been sponsored by somebody or a group of persons,” he said.

“Six persons have been identified. We used technology to track them down. We are still analysing the video footage, and we are making efforts to arrest all those involved. We are also making efforts to get their sponsors,” Gumel said.

“Traditional institution is a respectable institution; anybody who messes around with the traditional institution is a saboteur and an enemy of the state,” he said.

Gumel also said no fewer than 100 repentant criminals had surrendered to the police with their weapons within the past three months.
