Nigerien ousted leader offered support by US

The Nigerien ousted president Mohamed Bazoum is being support by the US after ia coup.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned those detaining Mr Bazoum that “hundreds of millions of dollars of assistance” was at risk.

The US has offered “unflagging support” to Nigerien ousted president, Mohamed Bazoum after he was ousted in a coup on Wednesday.

The head of the presidential guards unit, General Abdourahmane Tchiani had declared himself the new leader in Niger.

Mr Bazoum had been is a key Western ally in the fight against Islamist militants in the region.

Concerns are high I n the West on which countries the new leader will align with.

Burkina Faso and Mali, have both pivoted towards Russia since their own coups.
