The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a seven-day notice for a nationwide strike, set to begin on August 2, 2023.
The strike is in response to the removal of fuel subsidy, which has caused hardship for the citizens of Nigeria.
Despite a court order earlier in June attempting to prohibit the strike, the NLC expressed its concern for the suffering of the people and stated its inability to remain inactive.
In the past, the Tinubu administration took the organized labour to court in an effort to prevent the nationwide strike after the initial removal of the fuel subsidy on petrol.
Although a committee was formed to hold discussions with the unions, while the negotiations failed to yield any resolution.
Hakeem Ambali, the national treasurer of the NLC, confirmed the issuance of the ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding that negotiations with the labour be concluded within the next seven days.
As of now, the national president of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, has not provided an official statement or responded to inquiries concerning the matter.
