Following the successful execution of the 2022-23 season in August, the Nigeria National League, NNL has set September or the first week in October as the time frame for kickoff of the new season.
Heartland of Owerri won the 2022/23 season at the NNL Super Eight Championship in Asaba, while Sokoto United, Adamawa United, Ikorodu City and Smart City retained their league status at the just-concluded relegation playoffs in Kano.
On the plans for the coming season, NNL Chairman, George Aluo, said for the coming season, will centre around matching the kickoff date with the Europeans season in line with the directive of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau.
Aluo said the NNL would key into NFF’s stance to fix the league’s resumption date at the AGM.
“The first thing before we start the season is to hold our AGM, where we will rub minds with club owners and decide when the new season will start.,” he said.
“We are looking at September or October in line with the directive of President of Nigeria Football Federation Ibrahim Gusau that we should align our league with the rest of the world”, Aluo said.
“The Nigeria Premier League will be starting later this month so we are looking at September or the first week of October,” he emphasized.
