The Borno State Government, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation, has initiated a polio vaccination campaign targeting 2,506,233 children aged 0-59 months across 26 local government areas.
According to the reports gathered by Kanempress the aim is to maintain the polio-free status achieved after 13 months without a case of the Circulating variant Polio Virus (cVP2) in the state.
The Executive Director of the Borno State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Professor Mohammed Alhaji, emphasized the importance of sustaining this status, given the current low level of routine immunization in the state, making children more vulnerable to polio.
Similarly, Dr. Ibrahim Salisu, the Borno State Coordinator for WHO, expressed gratitude to the state government for its leadership, commitment, and prioritization of health, as their partnership has successfully facilitated the planning and deployment of resources for the campaign.
He said, “Our partnership with the Borno State government, and relevant stakeholders, has resulted in a successful planning and deployment of necessary resources for the campaign to commence,” Salisu said.
