Suspected gunmen believed to be herdsmen have allegedly carried out an attack in the Yantu Special Development Area of Taraba resulting in the deaths of three individuals.

Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Usman Abdulahi confirmed the incident and stated that security personnel have been dispatched to the area to restore peace and capture the culprits responsible for the attack.

Emmanuel Madaki, the Coordinator of the Yangtu Special Development Area has strongly condemned the assault. He revealed that the victims were ambushed while en route to their farmlands. The deceased individuals have been identified as Rimamskep Atenji Andekwab Yakubu Ashasim and ElKannah Akyara who are all from the Kuteb community.

It is suspected that the assailants were Fulani herdsmen.

Efforts are underway to investigate the attack further and ensure the safety of residents in the region.

“It’s unfortunate that incidences of attacks are still happening on the Kuteb people when a peace accord between Fulani and Kuteb people is in place. Just yesterday, three of Kuteb youth, Mr Rimamskep Atenji, Mr Andekwab Yakubu Ashasim and Mr ElKannah Akyara were killed by armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

“The innocent farmers were attacked and killed when they were going to farm in the morning,” the coordinator narrated.

Mr Madaki also appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas and the security agencies to step up action to ensure total peace in the area.

According to him, Kutebs were peace-loving farmers and were only determined to face their farming activities to complement the state government’s quest for food security and tackle the impending hunger been portray by fuel subsidy removal.
