Trade Union Congress calls on Government to pay outstanding wage award to workers

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has called on the Nigerian Government to pay the five months outstanding wage award as a crucial step towards strengthening relationship between government and labour unions.

TUC President, Comrade Festus Osifo made the call in Abuja at the 7th Registrar of Trade Unions Workshop.

Represented by Vice President of the Union, Tommy Okon, Comrade Osifo urged the government to prioritize the welfare of workers in the face of economic hardship.

Responding, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Mohammad Dingyadi gave assurance that the federal government would look into the issues of wage awards and implementation of minimum wage raised by the unions.

Dingyadi promised to promote capacity building, strengthening of labour Institutions, consistency in policy implementations, Provision of occupational Safety and Health framework for workers in workplace.

A Director Overseeing the office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, John Nyamali expressed hope that the workshop would find a workable strategy in tackling labour related issues.
