Yobe Government Initiates Training for 178 Agricultural Extension Agents

In a bid to rejuvenate the agricultural sector as directed by the revitalisation committee established by His Excellency, Executive Governor Hon Mai Mala Buni CON (Chiroman Gujba), the Yobe State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has launched a three-day training program for 178 extension agents across the state. This was announced by Aishatu Tijjani, Chief Information Officer of the ministry.

The training, segmented into two zones with 8 local government areas in Damaturu and 9 in Gashu’a, was inaugurated by Hon Ali Mustapha Goniri, the Commissioner for Agriculture.

Hon Goniri highlighted that this training aims to ensure the substantial investment by the Buni administration, amounting to billions of naira, translates into tangible benefits in the agricultural sector. He emphasized the necessity for extension agents, being crucial components of the Agricultural Development Programme, to be well-versed in modern and innovative farming techniques to aid grassroots farmers.

He pointed out that climate change and other modern farming challenges necessitate advanced methods to improve crop yields and livestock productivity.

“This initiative is timely and aligns with the global trend of prioritizing agro-economy to secure food supplies and enhance value chain resilience,” Hon Goniri stated. He also urged participants to fully engage with the expert facilitators, who include distinguished professors of veterinary and agricultural economics.

The Programme Manager of the ADP, Alh Mallam Gana, reiterated that the training is designed to refresh and upgrade the knowledge of extension agents, enabling them to effectively disseminate modern farming techniques to farmers across the state. He praised the state government’s efforts, particularly those of Governor Mai Mala Buni and the Commissioner of Agriculture, in revitalizing the agricultural sector.
