Yobe State Awarded $500,000 for Excellence in Primary Healthcare Leadership

In a remarkable achievement, Yobe State, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, has been recognized as the best-performing state in the northeast region at the 2024 Primary Health Care (PHC) Leadership Challenge. The state received a prestigious $500,000 award for its transformative investments in healthcare.
This announcement was made by Yusuf Ali, Senior Special Assistant for Digital and Strategic Communications. The award was accepted by Deputy Governor Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, along with the Commissioner of Health, the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Agency, and the Executive Secretary of the Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, during a gala night organized by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum at the Banquet Hall, Aso Villa, Abuja.
Governor Buni’s administration has been lauded for its unwavering commitment to healthcare transformation, particularly at the primary level. This recognition follows significant investments in public health infrastructure, service delivery, and strategic reforms aimed at enhancing health outcomes across the state.
The PHC Leadership Challenge is a collaborative initiative involving the Nigerian Governors Forum, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, the Aliko Dangote Foundation, and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency. It encourages governors to prioritize healthcare investments and strengthen service delivery.
Governor Buni’s administration continues to demonstrate innovative approaches to public health, with the $500,000 prize earmarked to further enhance ongoing healthcare initiatives, ensuring improved access to quality care for Yobe residents.
