Border Security: Governor Buni to Brief Military Chiefs After Council Meeting

The state Security Council of Yobe met yesterday in Damaturu to discuss the security situation in the border areas. The meeting was chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, who expressed his sympathy to the families of the victims of a recent attack by suspected gunmen in a border village. He also prayed for the souls of the deceased to rest in peace.

According to a statement issued by Mamman Mohammed, the DG of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Buni will meet with the Army and Air Force chiefs to brief them on the resolutions of the meeting and to request for more security presence along the borders with Borno state and Niger Republic. He will also seek for a joint operation of the military and police forces to clear any possible Undetonated, Explosive Ordinance devices in some areas.

Brig. Gen. Abdulsalam Dahiru (rtd), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, told reporters that security operatives have been deployed to the affected community to prevent further infiltration by the gunmen.

Buni also directed the Secretary to the State Government to form a government delegation to visit and console the families of the victims. He also ordered the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide support to the families of the deceased.
