Borno bans street begging, loitering

Borno State’s government has taken a decisive step by prohibiting street begging and loitering in and around the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere local government area.
This decision was conveyed through an official statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof Usman Tar, on a Sunday in Maiduguri.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Prof Usman Tar emphasized that street begging does not align with the values religion or culture, urging the people of Borno to comply with this new regulation.
The Commissioner stated, “In Borno State, street begging and aimless loitering are not in our character. We are dignified people.”
Kanempress learned that the ban covers a wide range of locations within the specified areas, including public buildings, places of worship, commercial premises, and various marketplaces like Monday Market, Old Maiduguri Market, and Budum Market.
It was learned that it extends to specific streets and junctions such as Lagos Street, Custom Area, Post Office area, Galadima Junction, Police Commissioner Junction, Damboa Road, Baga Road, and Dandal Way, among others.
According to the statement, the ban begins with immediate effect.
