The Borno State Government has established skills acquisition centers across all liberated Local Government Areas as part of its commitment to rebuilding communities and empowering residents.
On October 24, 2024, during an event at MOCOLIS, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, announced the initiative and called on the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other international donors to support this vital effort.
Professor Tar emphasized that the state will continue collaborating with the UNDP and various NGOs to provide skills training for volunteer security personnel and unemployed youth throughout Borno. He noted that the government will determine which trades are taught to ensure alignment with local needs.
Additionally, he recommended extending the duration of training programs to allow participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of their selected trades. The state government is also encouraging trainees to establish cooperative societies, enabling them to access small and medium-scale entrepreneurship loans through the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Youth Empowerment.
Professor Tar urged participants to fully utilize the knowledge and tools provided, cautioning against selling or misusing the start-up equipment they receive. He assured the public that the government would regularly monitor trainees’ progress to ensure their long-term success.
