Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the rehabilitation of Uba General Hospital and the township road networks.

The governor also approved the rehabilitation of eight primary schools in Uba town, including Uba Central Primary School, Mufa A Primary School, Kuma Primary School, Masil Primary School, Uba Marghi Primary School, Low-Cost Primary School, Kwarghi Primary School, and Mufa B Primary School.

In addition to these projects, Governor Zulum announced the construction of a new palace complex to fit the status of the Emir. The governor said, “You have to undertake a complete rehabilitation, provide furniture and also ensure adequate teachers are deployed.” He also directed the construction of a deep aquifer borehole for the High Islamic College, Uba.

During his visit to Uba, the Governor assessed ongoing projects, coordinated policy implementations, and approved new initiatives.

His efforts demonstrate a commitment to holistic development, addressing education, healthcare, infrastructure, and community needs. Governor Zulum also directed the employment of four additional medical doctors for the General Hospital in Uba to boost the healthcare workforce ¹.

The governor’s commitment to rebuilding the state is reflected in the 2024 budget, totaling N340.6 billion.

The budget includes provisions for various projects, such as the construction of eye and dental hospitals, orthopedic hospital, schools of nursing, high Islamic colleges, and hospital upgrades ¹.

Some of the key highlights of the budget include investing in education, infrastructure development, empowering communities, and environmental protection.

The government plans to construct teachers and health workers quarters, establish schools of nursing, and provide scholarships to students pursuing nursing and midwifery programs ¹.

Furthermore, the government recognizes the importance of supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and has allocated N5 billion for their development. The budget also includes provisions for the settlement of 25% of gratuities owed by the state and local governments, providing much-needed financial relief to retireesretirees.

In line with the state’s focus on sustainable development, the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, financed by the World Bank, aims to tackle land degradation and climate change in 19 states of Northern Nigeria, including Borno.
