Chief of Defence Staff restates commitment of Nigerian Armed Forces to security

To security, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has restated the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to ensuring security by getting rid of criminal elements causing security breaches.

General Musa told newsmen after the visit to the military cantonment in Samaru, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State where the military provided enablers and equipment for the base to tackle insecurity in Southern Kaduna and environs.

The Chief of Defence Staff also commended Nigerian troops for their professionalism and sacrifice in safeguarding the country with assurances that their welfare is paramount and will be improved upon.

He charged troops to remain steadfast and professional in their conduct of safeguarding the country and respect human rights in discharging their duties.

General Musa emphasized the importance of collaboration with other security agencies and civilians in achieving their goal of securing the nation.

The Chief of Defence Staff and his entourage also visited the palace of Chief of Kagoro on a courtesy call on the paramount ruler where he reaffirmed the military’s commitment to fostering unity and security in the region.

Similarly, troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force, MNTJF operating under Sector 3 in Mongunu have intercepted a suspected terrorist courier conveying Improvised Explosive Device-making materials at the entrance to Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Chief Military Information Officer of the force, Leutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, said the terrorist was arrested on Thursday following a combined effort of the MNJTF and the Civilian Joint Task Force.

Olaniyi said “The arrested suspect, identified as Mr Murktar Alhaji Chari (28), confessed to transporting the materials to Damasak town in Mobbar Local Government Area for a planned attack on MNJTF troops.”

The intercepted materials included four empty 12kg cylinders, one empty 6kg cylinder, two carburettor gas canisters, two pressure regulators and a hose.

The timely interception of the courier and the recovery of the materials disrupted a potential terrorist attack and dealt a significant blow to the operational capabilities of the terrorist group.
