The Federal Government has announced July 15, 2025, as the final deadline for settling outstanding wage award arrears owed to federal civil servants.

Speaking at a press briefing on July 11, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, confirmed that funds have been approved for the payments. He expressed the government’s displeasure over the prolonged delay and assured that action is now underway to resolve the issue.

The arrears cover five months of N35,000 wage award payments — part of a palliative package introduced by the government to cushion the effects of recent economic reforms. While five months’ worth of payments were made earlier, another five months remain unpaid.

According to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the pending arrears will be paid in N35,000 monthly installments, covering the outstanding five-month period.

Labor unions had raised concerns over the delay, but with this new deadline, civil servants can expect to receive the full backlog of payments shortly. The government reiterated its commitment to upholding agreements on worker welfare and timely remuneration.
