Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum warmly welcomed former President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday during his visit to the state, aimed at expressing condolences to the people and government following the devastating flood disaster that struck on September 10.
The flood severely impacted Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, and its surrounding local government areas, resulting in numerous fatalities and extensive property damage. Although President Buhari was abroad at the time of the disaster, he promptly dispatched a high-level delegation to convey his sympathies and contributed N20 million to the state’s relief fund.
During his visit, Buhari reflected on the tragedy, stating, “Having served as governor in Borno during my military career, I could hardly imagine such a disaster. While I was out of the country, my only option was to send representatives to express my condolences.”
In their remarks, both Governor Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Umar Garbai Elkanemi, expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the former President for his visit and support during this challenging time.
Accompanying Buhari were notable figures including former Secretary to the Federal Government Boss Mustapha, Engr. Sulaiman Adamu, Senator Hadi Sirika, Professor Isa Pantami, Engr. Aliyu Mamman, Garba Shehu, Emeka Nwajiuba, and Musa Haro Danmadami among other distinguished associates.
