Free and fair election is our sole concern, Police in Yobe vows

The Yobe state police command and other relevant security agencies have reiterated their overwhelming commitment towards ensuring adequate security coverage before, during and after the 2023 general elections.

According to the statement made available to newsmen, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, revealed that it is imperative to remind all and sundry that movement of persons and vehicles will be restricted from 0600hrs to 1800hrs of 25th February 2023 except for those on essential services.

The statement, in addition, revealed that voters are enjoined to go back to their respective homes after casting their votes and await the declaration of election results.

“Quasi-security outfits such as Vigilante/Hunters groups, YOROTA, Man O War, Boys Scout, Boys Brigade, Voluntary organizations and other local security groups are exempted from participation in the conduct of the general elections by the Electoral Act 2022,” the statement disclosed.

The disclosure warned that any person found flouting the electoral laws or going about with arms is liable to be apprehended and prosecuted.

The Yobe state Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna G. Garba, demonstrated his preparedness towards a hitch-free and credible general election.

He urged all police personnel and other law enforcement agencies deployed for national assignment to observe human rights, extant laws, rules and regulations guiding the conduct of the exercise.

CP Haruna further enjoined all good people of Yobe state to cooperate with security personnel and render support to ensure the success of the exercise in the state.
