Governor Zulum Advocates for Piety and Patriotism at OAU Ramadan Lecture

Muslim faithful in Nigeria have been urged to embrace the virtues of piety, charity, and moderation as outlined in the Holy Quran and Prophetic traditions. These virtues are seen as essential tools for fostering a resilient, patriotic, and charitable citizenry in Nigeria.
The Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, made these remarks during the Annual Ramadan Lecture at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
Serving as the Special Guest of Honour, Gov. Zulum called on Muslims to be prayerful, patriotic, and patient during the holy month of Ramadan. He also emphasized the importance of religious tolerance, philanthropy, and being exemplary ambassadors of Islam to other faith communities.
In his lecture titled “Navigating Economic Difficulties in Nigeria through Reliance on Allah,” the Guest Lecturer, Prof. Badmus Olanrewaju Yusuf, urged Muslims to adhere to the teachings of Allah regarding reliance on divine providence, resource economy, and redistribution through Zakat and Sadaqat (obligatory and emphatic charity). Prof. Yusuf encouraged Muslims to avoid wasteful activities and immorality during Ramadan.
Meanwhile,on behalf of the people and government of Borno State, Gov. Zulum donated ₦50 million to support the charitable activities of the OAU Muslim Community. This gesture was described as a token of love, fraternity, and communal togetherness.
The Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Yusuf Olaolu Ali SAN, expressed profound gratitude to Gov. Zulum for his generosity and kindness towards all communities in Nigeria. Prof. Ali urged Nigerian Muslim leaders to support faith communities and their charitable activities to build godly citizens, philanthropy, and civic culture.
Gov. Zulum was accompanied by Hon. Abba Kyari Abba Kolo, member representing Jere Constituency at the Borno State House of Assembly; Dr. Babagana Mustapha Mallambe, Deputy Chief of Staff; Prof. Usman Tar, Commissioner for Information and Internal Security; Dr. Hassan Zanna Boguma, Senior Adviser to His Excellency on Culture and Regional Integration; and Prof. Bobboi Umar.
