In a bold and visionary step toward transforming Borno Radio Television (BRTV) into a world-class media powerhouse, the Borno State Government has commenced a high-level study tour of leading broadcast media institutions across Northern Nigeria.
The delegation led by Professor Usman Tar, Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, the High-Powered Committee on the Resuscitation and Rehabilitation of BRTV began the groundbreaking mission in Kano State, a move that reflects the Zulum administration’s unwavering commitment to restoring the state’s media pride.
The first leg of the strategic tour saw the Borno delegation visit renowned media giants including Freedom Radio Kano, BUK Radio/TV, and Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV). The top-level interactions offered rare behind-the-scenes access to the operational backbone of these successful stations, from cutting-edge equipment to innovative content strategies, digital broadcast transitions, and effective management systems.
Addressing journalists during the visit, Professor Usman Tar described the tour as a crucial learning mission aimed at benchmarking best practices and bringing new energy into the BRTV revival effort.
“We are on a journey of transformation. This is not just about fixing what was damaged, it’s about building a new, modern, competitive BRTV that will inform, educate, and entertain our people across the 27 LGAs of Borno. We are learning from the best to become even better,” Professor Tar said.
The effort comes in the wake of the devastating floods that severely affected BRTV’s infrastructure. But rather than settle for piecemeal repairs, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s government is choosing a path of comprehensive rebirth, one that sets a new standard for public broadcasting in the State.
This is leadership with vision. Leadership that understands the role of media in shaping public perception, fostering unity, and delivering timely, factual information in an age of digital disruption.
The delegation comprises top-tier professionals and media veterans, including Aminu Chamalwa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry; Ali Mamman Shuwa, current GM of BRTV; former GMs Umar Mohammed and Babakura Abba Jato; Professor Nasiru Abba Aji, and Engr. Haruna Ndirimbita, NTA Zonal Director, among others.
Throughout the tour, the committee has engaged in deep technical sessions with station engineers, editorial teams, and broadcast managers, focusing on content development, digital broadcasting, staff welfare, and sustainable media business models.
As the tour moves to other Northern states in the coming days, it’s clear that this is more than just a study visit, it is the beginning of a new era for BRTV.
The people of Borno can look forward to a reborn state broadcaster, driven by innovation, inspired by excellence, and powered by a government that listens, learns, and leads.
BRTV is coming back, stronger, smarter, and better.
And with Governor Zulum’s forward-thinking leadership, the airwaves of Borno are set to shine once again.
