The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This year’s release has stirred conversations across the country, especially among candidates eager to know their performance and what it means for their university admission prospects.

If you sat for the exam, or you’re a parent, guardian, or educator looking to stay informed, this blog post breaks down all the key details—from how to check your result, to analyzing national performance stats, and what comes next in the admission process.

How to Check Your JAMB 2025 Result

There are two official ways to check your UTME result: via SMS and through the JAMB online portal.

Option 1: SMS Method

  1. Send UTMERESULT to 55019 using the phone number you used to register.
  2. Ensure you have at least ₦50 airtime.
  3. You’ll receive your result as a text message within minutes.

Note: If you use a different number, the system will reply with “This phone number was not used for registration.”

Option 2: JAMB Online Portal

  1. Visit https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng/.
  2. Log in with your registration number or phone number.
  3. Click on “Check My Result.”
  4. Your result will be displayed immediately.

Statistics: How Did Candidates Perform?

The 2025 UTME saw participation from over 1.9 million candidates. However, the performance this year has raised eyebrows:

  • 420,415 candidates scored above 200, representing only 22% of the total.
  • Just 12,414 candidates (0.63%) scored above 300.
  • Shockingly, over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200.
  • 40,247 underage candidates (under 16) took the exam. Only 467 of them scored above 300.

JAMB’s registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, attributed some of the low scores to poor preparation and exam malpractice. He also mentioned that results are withheld in certain cases due to suspected irregularities.

If You Didn’t See Your Result

If your result isn’t showing yet, or you receive a message like “Result Withheld,” here’s what it might mean:

  • Withheld Result: Your exam is under investigation for malpractice.
  • Result Pending: It’s still being processed—check back later.
  • Biometric Issues: Candidates with fingerprint or facial verification problems may be rescheduled to retake the exam.

What’s Next After Seeing Your Result?

After checking your score, the next steps include:

  1. Determine Your Chances
Compare your score against last year’s cut-off marks for your preferred course and university. Competitive courses like Medicine, Law, and Engineering may require scores well above 250.
  2. JAMB Cut-Off Mark
JAMB will soon announce the national minimum cut-off marks for 2025. However, individual universities may set higher cut-offs.
  3. Post-UTME Screening
Most institutions will conduct a post-UTME or screening exercise. Monitor your school’s website and JAMB CAPS portal regularly.
  4. JAMB CAPS (Central Admissions Processing System)
Log into JAMB CAPS to monitor admission offers, accept or reject admission, and make course changes if necessary.

Helpful Tips for Candidates

  • Print Your Result Slip: You’ll need it for post-UTME registration and during admission processing.
  • Keep Documents Safe: Secure your registration slip, result, and other credentials.
  • Be Informed: Follow your institution’s official updates. Avoid falling for rumors or scams.

Final Thoughts

While the statistics may seem discouraging, don’t lose hope. Thousands of candidates gain admission every year with determination, planning, and the right information. Whether you’re celebrating a high score or strategizing a second chance, this is just one step on your academic journey.

Stay calm, stay informed, and take action as early as possible to secure your place in the next academic session.
