In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the June 12, 1993, presidential poll, President Bola Tinubu said that he is aware of the challenges Nigerians are going through due to the removal of fuel subsidies and he assures that his administration is working around the clock to provide some palliative measures.

Tinubu gave the assurance in his first address to the nation on Monday, to mark the 2023 Democracy Day in honour of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.

“I feel your pain. This is one decision we must bear to save our country from going under and take our resources away from the stranglehold of a few unpatriotic elements,” Tinubu said in his maiden Democracy Day address to Nigerians as President.

According to the President, “the temporal discomfort occasioned by the subsidy removal was necessary to save the country from going under.”

He called on Nigerians to sacrifice a little more like Abiola, whom he said, “We can easily recall the sacrifice and martyrdom of Chief MKO Abiola, the custodian of the sacred mandate that was so cruelly annulled.

Kanempress reported that Tinubu in his inaugural speech on May 29, stated that subsidy can no longer justify its ever-increasing costs in the wake of drying resources, hence, announced its removal.
