The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has launched the distribution of subsidized inputs to 6,000 wheat farmers in Kano State.

The program aims to boost wheat production, with the government providing a 75% subsidy on the inputs.

According to Alhaji Isa Hotoro, State Coordinator of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, each farmer will receive three bags of fertilizer and one bag of 50kg wheat seeds at a cost of N111,000, representing 25% of the total package.

The farmers are expected to cultivate 3,000 hectares of farmland in 12 special clusters across three local government areas.

The subsidized inputs are part of the Federal Government’s special program on wheat production, designed to support farmers who have been struggling with high input costs and transportation expenses.

Some farmers, like Yakubu Ibrahim, have already benefited from the program, which has enabled them to expand their cultivation areas.

Ibrahim, who had reduced his cultivation area from five hectares to two due to the economic crisis, praised the Federal Government for the timely intervention, saying it would enhance food supply and make prices more affordable for consumers.
