The planned strike by the NLC and TUC unions for Tuesday, November 14, has been halted by the Labor Court. The court issued an order on Friday evening to prevent the two unions from carrying out their strike action in the following week.
The case was brought by the Nigerian government and the attorney general, who argued that the strike would cause more hardship for the people of the country. The counsel for the plaintiffs, Barista Tijani Gazali, warned that the strike could lead to anarchy and disorder in the nation.
The presiding judge, Justice Benedict Kanyip, ruled in favor of the plaintiffs and said that the court had the authority to intervene in matters that could threaten the peace of the country.
He invoked section 17 and 19 of the court rules to stop the strike
