Maiduguri Airport’s Upgrade to Boost Northeast Economy and Connectivity

Maiduguri Airport in Northeast – Nigeria has been approved to be upgraded to international standard.
The upgrade of Maiduguri Airport is expected to stimulate economic growth and strengthen regional connections in the Northeast.
Following the upgrade, Maiduguri Airport becomes one of the international airports to enhance travel accessibility and foster trade and investment opportunities in the area.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo disclosed this at the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series, organised by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
Keyamo said the development would increase international flight schedules across the country and improve interconnectivity between Nigeria and other countries.
The minister said the ministry had achieved a lot including performing the foundation laying ceremony for the commencement of the Abia Airport project.
