In what has been described as a historic milestone for education and youth development in the Northeast, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law the bill establishing the Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship (FUAE) in Bama, Borno State.Reacting to the development, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, SAN, who represents Borno Central in the Senate, expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu for what he called a “transformational decision” that will serve not just Borno, but neighbouring African nations like Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.“This isn’t just a university for Borno. This is a regional beacon of opportunity,” Lawan said in a post-plenary conversation with journalists. “It will empower our youth with the skills to thrive in agriculture and entrepreneurship—areas key to tackling unemployment and reducing dependency on white-collar jobs.”Lawan also acknowledged the key figures whose support was crucial to the bill’s passage, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House Tajudeen Abbas. But he reserved special praise for Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, describing him as “the anchor behind this vision.”He highlighted Governor Zulum’s instrumental role in advancing the project and his unflinching commitment to restoring peace in the region, referencing Zulum’s personal visits to volatile areas like Marte, Kala-Balge, Dikwa, and Ngala to confront the security crisis head-on.“Governor Zulum’s leadership goes beyond policy—it’s boots on the ground,” the senator noted. “His week-long presence in Marte, a zone once overrun by insurgents, is a bold testimony to service and sacrifice.”Tragedy Along Marte-Dikwa RoadHowever, the celebration was also tempered by grief, following the loss of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members in a deadly bomb blast reportedly caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists.Senator Lawan extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, Governor Zulum, and all security stakeholders. “We lost heroes. They died protecting our people. May Allah grant them eternal rest in Aljanna Firdaus and give their families strength,” he prayed.A Pledge of Continued ServiceReaffirming his commitment to Borno and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Lawan promised to continue lobbying for federal projects that will benefit the state.“This achievement is only the beginning. I remain resolute in supporting Governor Zulum’s efforts and bringing more developmental initiatives to our people,” he assured. As Borno celebrates the establishment of FUAE Bama, there’s renewed hope that education, empowerment, and peace are beginning to take deeper root in the region.
